The Restaurant

by T. Gene Davis

"This is not what I was planning."

"Yeah."

"Well you go first."

"No."

"Why not?"

"Because it was your idea."

"I wasn't planning this."

"Will one of you order?" The waitress tapped her foot.

Dan smiled up at her. She didn't smile back. He didn't know how rushed she was. There were tables to wait on, and this little argument wasn't speeding things along.

Dan looked at the menu again.

"Rob, you go," Dan said.

"It was your idea."

The waitress cleared her throat. "Would you two like more time?"

"Yes, thanks," Rob spoke.

Dan smiled at Rob as the waitress left.

"I was really thinking tacos -- cheap ones. I can't afford this place."

"Me neither," Rob said standing.

They left into the darkness, pulling their collars up to ward off some of the cold.
